The Outcome

A pilot project was launched in Grenada to assess the feasibility of utilizing Sargassum seaweed for biogas and biofertilizer production. A biodigester was installed at True Blue Bay Resort, resulting in seven dissertation studies. These studies focused on various aspects of the project:

Two studies analyzed the quality and quantity of methane gas produced.
Two studies examined the quality of the biofertilizer derived from Sargassum.
One study explored the logistics of scaling the operation.
One study assessed the potential to connect the energy produced by the biodigester to Grenada’s national grid by generating electricity.
One study focused on the dimensioning and establishment of the scaled-up facility.
